College News:

May 19, 2009 Jade Machado was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year at last week's UCLA Scholar-Athlete Banquet. Machado and Kaitlin Sather were each recipients of the Athletic Director's Academic Excellence Award and the women's volleyball team won the Donald R. Shepherd Team GPA Award with the school's highest cumulative grade point average for 2007-08 at 3.254.

Machado was a first-team All-Pac-10 Academic selection all three years she was eligible (2006-08) and also received first-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District accolades as a junior and second-team All-District as a sophomore and senior. She has been on the Director's Honor Roll every quarter, achieving a 4.0 GPA nine times. Machado boasts a 3.954 grade point average.

Machado and Sather each earned Athletic Director's Academic Excellence Awards, which are given to student-athletes who have made the Director's Honor Roll every quarter at UCLA. 



DAVIDSON, N.C. – Rutgers sophomore Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) netted a team-best 32 kills in two matches en route to earning all-tournament honors, however the Scarlet Knights fell to both UNC-Charlotte and host Davidson on the final day of the Davidson College Tournament at Belk Arena.


NEW YORK-Freshman Noonan Named NYSWCAA Rookie of the Year Freshman Erin Noonan was named the 2007 New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Rookie of the Year. The announcement was made on Saturday, October 27, at the 2007 NYSWCAA Volleyball Championship Tournament, which is being held at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Noonan becomes the first NYSWCAA Rookie of the Year for NYU since Katya Khmelnitskaya was presented the award in 2002.

Noonan currently leads the Violets with 334 kills on the season (3.09 K/G). She is hitting .207 and is second on the team in total blocks with 68. Noonan also leads the team with a .930 service percentage and is fifth with 32 service aces.

Selected the NYSWCAA Rookie of the Week on October 3, Noonan has also been named to the 2007 Ithaca College Bomber Invitational All-Tournament Team and to the Millikin University - Linda Slagel Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team so far this season.

 At the conclusion of NYSWCAA tournament, Noonan was also named to the All-Tournament team.
