After a stellar career as both a high school basketball and volleyball player, Jud Buechler moved on to the University of Arizona to pursue his passion for hoops. Because Jud had been selected as one of the nations 50 best high school players by Volleyball Monthly and was voted a High School All-American, his move to Arizona disappointed numerous collegiate volleyball coaches.Once the decision was made, Buechler never looked back. He played four outstanding years as a Wildcat, participated in the 1988 NCAA Final Four, and was selected as a All-Pac 10 player in 1990. Drafted out of college, Jud went on to play 12 years in the NBA. The highlight of his career was winning three NBA World Championships with the Chicago Bulls. His summers were spent back in California. He played in numerous pro beach volleyball 2-man events, his best finish was a 7th, and was a fixture on the Bud Light 4-man beach tour. Jud can still bring it on the sand and last summer was a member of the “Legends” team that won the Masters at the Manhattan 6-man. Jud has coached 4 years at the Wave, taking three Bronze Medals at the Junior Olympics. He lives with his wife, Lindsay, and two daughters in Del Mar and surfs whenever the waves are good.
